Iosif Rebelsky

Iosif Veniaminovich Rebelsky was a prominent figure in the field of psychology, serving as a psychiatrist, psychologist, and educator in the Soviet Union. As a professor, he made significant contributions to his field, but it was his humanitarian work that ultimately defined his legacy. Rebelsky is best known for his efforts in organizing orphanages for Jewish children who survived the Holocaust in Lithuania, providing them with much-needed care and support.

Rebelsky's selfless work, however, came at a great personal cost. His activities were misconstrued as Zionist, leading to his accusation and subsequent sentencing to a Gulag labor camp. Tragically, Rebelsky did not survive to see the end of his sentence, passing away in Butyrka prison in Moscow. Despite the circumstances of his death, Rebelsky's dedication to helping those in need has left a lasting impact, and his work continues to be remembered as a testament to his compassion and commitment to the well-being of others.
