Boris Rosenthal
Boris Rosenthal was a multifaceted figure in the entertainment industry, active as a character actor and operetta lyricist in the Yiddish theater. Born in 1881 in Kishinev, Bessarabia, to a family of modest means - his father was a flour merchant - Rosenthal's early life took a turn towards labor when he was sent to work in a manufacturing factory at a young age. However, upon his family's relocation to Łódź, his exposure to the performing arts, particularly through attending German theater productions, would sow the seeds of his future career.
Rosenthal's foray into acting began with a small role in a 1904 production featuring Ida Kamińska, an experience that solidified his decision to pursue a career in the theater. He went on to work with notable troupes, including those led by Dovid-Moyshe Sabsay and Fishzon. His debut role was in Abraham Goldfaden's "Bobe Yakhne," a significant milestone in his acting journey. Through his work, Rosenthal contributed to the rich cultural landscape of the Yiddish theater, leaving a lasting impact until his passing in 1938.
