Elias Broomberg

Elias Broomberg was a prominent figure in Rhodesian politics and business, having emigrated from his birthplace of Johannesburg, South Africa to Southern Rhodesia in 1956. He established himself as a successful entrepreneur, co-founding a textile company in Bulawayo, before turning his attention to politics. Broomberg's entry into public office came in 1970, when he was first elected to Parliament, marking the beginning of his career in government.

Broomberg's political ascent continued with his appointment as Minister of Commerce and Industry in 1974 by Prime Minister Ian Smith. He went on to hold another key portfolio, serving as Minister of Information, Immigration, and Tourism from 1976. After a relatively short but notable period in public office, Broomberg chose not to seek reelection in 1977, opting to leave both Parliament and the Cabinet. His departure from politics was soon followed by his passing, which occurred in the same year, bringing an end to his distinguished career in business and politics.
