Gisela Werbezirk
Austrian-Hungarian actress (1875–1956)
Gisela Werbezirk was a prominent Austrian-Hungarian actress, born in 1875, who spent the majority of her career gracing the stages of European theaters. Her notable performances in Vienna and Berlin earned her recognition, with some even likening her to the renowned stage actress Marie Dressler. Werbezirk's talent and dedication to her craft allowed her to establish a successful career in the theater scene, with her name becoming familiar to audiences across the continent.
As the threat of World War II loomed, Werbezirk was forced to flee her home due to the Nazi invasion of Austria. Emigrating to America in late 1938 as a Jewish refugee, she brought her talents to New York, where she performed on Broadway. She later transitioned to film, taking on minor roles in Hollywood productions. Despite the challenges she faced, Werbezirk continued to work in the entertainment industry until her passing in 1956, due to complications from kidney failure, at the age of 81.
