Hans Nicolajsen

Danish missionary

Hans Nicolajsen, also known as John Nicolayson, was a Danish missionary who dedicated his life to promoting Christianity in Palestine. He worked on behalf of the London Society for Promoting Christianity Among the Jews, effectively becoming the first representative of the British Christian mission to the Jewish community in the region. Through his efforts, Nicolajsen played a significant role in establishing a Christian presence in Palestine.

Nicolajsen's activism extended beyond his missionary work, as he was also an advocate for justice and human rights. Notably, he was one of the individuals who spoke out against the Damascus affair, a notable example of his commitment to standing up for what he believed in. In addition to his advocacy work, Nicolajsen was also a founder of several important institutions, including Christ Church in Jerusalem and the Mount Zion Cemetery, also in Jerusalem. His legacy paved the way for future leaders, such as Michael Alexander, who would go on to build upon the foundations laid by Nicolajsen.
