Horst Rosenthal

German-Jewish cartoonist (1915–1942)

Horst Rosenthal was a German-born cartoonist of Jewish descent, active in the field of art during the early 20th century. Born in 1915, he would go on to create notable works despite the challenging circumstances of his life. His most recognized work is a French comic book, which showcases his talent and creativity as a cartoonist.

Rosenthal's life was significantly impacted by World War II, during which he was imprisoned at the Gurs internment camp in France. It was during his time at Gurs that he created his notable comic book, Mickey au Camp de Gurs, in 1942. Unfortunately, his imprisonment did not end there, as he was later transferred to the Auschwitz concentration camp in German-occupied Poland, where he ultimately lost his life upon arrival in 1942, at the age of 27.
