Karel Reiner

Karel Reiner was a prominent figure in the Czech music scene, renowned as a composer and pianist. His life's work was marked by significant challenges, as he faced persecution from two opposing ideologies. As a Jew, he suffered at the hands of the Nazis, and later, his artistic style was deemed unacceptable by the communist regime, which labeled him a formalist.

Despite these hardships, Reiner's most remarkable experience was his survival of the Theresienstadt concentration camp, where he was imprisoned during the Nazi occupation. Notably, he was the only classical composer to endure and survive this camp. His unique experience and perseverance in the face of adversity have become an integral part of his legacy, reflecting his strength and dedication to his craft as a composer and pianist.
