La Mar Enfortuna
La Mar Enfortuna is a musical project born out of the alternative rock group Elysian Fields, led by Oren Bloedow and Jennifer Charles. This side project delves into the rich cultural heritage of the Sephardim, exploring and reinterpreting music from the 11th to the 16th century. The ensemble's repertoire features songs sung in a diverse range of languages, including Ladino, Arabic, Aramaic, Spanish, Greek, and English, reflecting the complex history and geography of the Sephardic tradition.
The group's sound is characterized by a unique blend of jazz, folk, rock, Middle Eastern, and Latin music influences, creating a distinctive and captivating sonic landscape. Alongside Charles and Bloedow, the core membership of La Mar Enfortuna includes Doug Wieselman, Ted Reichman, and Robert DiPietro, each bringing their own musical expertise to the project. Through their work, La Mar Enfortuna aims to revive and reimagine the lost or forgotten musical traditions of the Sephardim, presenting them in a modern and innovative context.
