Yaakov Heruti

Lehi militant, terrorist and bomb maker (1927–2022)

Yaakov Heruti was a prominent figure in Israeli activism, known for his involvement in far-right and Zionist militant groups. Born in 1927, Heruti was a member of the pre-state militant organization Lehi, where he played a key role in building bombs for the group. Notably, he assembled the letter bomb sent to Roy Farran, a British undercover agent. Heruti's activities during this period were marked by his commitment to the Zionist cause, which would shape his future endeavors.

Heruti's militant activities continued as the leader of the Kingdom of Israel group, responsible for bombing the Soviet embassy in Tel Aviv and other terrorist acts in the 1950s. His involvement in these events led to a two-year prison term. Following his release, Heruti transitioned into politics and settlement activity, contributing to the establishment of two right-wing political parties. He also assisted settlers in acquiring land, further solidifying his presence in Israeli activism. Heruti passed away in 2022, leaving behind a complex legacy marked by his controversial yet influential role in Israeli history.
