Carl Simon Fried
German doctor
Carl Simon Fried was a German medical doctor born on July 22, 1889, in Bamberg to a Jewish family. His father, Wilhelm Fried, was a hops-trader, and he had two siblings, Elsa and Stephan. Fried's professional career was marked by significant contributions to the field of medicine, particularly in the systemization of radiotherapy for benign diseases, a work he undertook alongside Lothar Heidenhain in the 1920s.
Beyond his medical pursuits, Fried also had a notable literary career, especially during his time in exile. He became one of the few published exile poets in Brazil, showcasing his versatility beyond the medical field. His literary work was complemented by his medical writings, including the book "Radium and Roentgentherapia," which he authored in 1940. In recognition of his contributions, a special bronze plate was laid in his memory in 2016, honoring the legacy of Dr. Carl Fried.
