Alex Dancyg
Polish-born Israeli historian (1948–2024)
Alexander Dancyg was a historian of Polish origin who later became an Israeli citizen. Born in 1948, he went on to make significant contributions to the field of history, including his work as a contributor to the Yad Vashem Institute. In addition to his academic pursuits, Dancyg was also a farmer and a member of Kibbutz Nir Oz, showcasing his diverse range of interests and commitments.
Dancyg was a strong advocate for dialogue between Polish and Jewish communities, reflecting his dedication to fostering greater understanding and cooperation. Tragically, his life was cut short in 2024 when he was kidnapped by Hamas militants during the Nir Oz attack and taken to the Gaza Strip. He was later killed in captivity during the Siege of Khan Yunis, a devastating conclusion to a life marked by his tireless efforts to promote historical awareness and intercultural exchange.
