Benzion Netanyahu

Israeli encyclopedist and historian (1910–2012)

Benzion Netanyahu was a renowned Israeli encyclopedist and historian, born in 1910 in Warsaw, Poland. He went on to become a prominent scholar of Judaic history, with a particular focus on the history of the Jews in Spain. Netanyahu's academic career included a position as a professor of history at Cornell University, where he was able to share his expertise with students. In addition to his academic pursuits, he was also an active participant in the Revisionist Zionism movement, advocating for the creation of a Jewish state.

Netanyahu's contributions to the field of history extended beyond his academic work, as he was also involved in editorial endeavors. He served as an editor of the Hebrew Encyclopedia, showcasing his commitment to preserving and disseminating knowledge about Jewish history and culture. Furthermore, he worked as an assistant to Benjamin Azkin, who was the personal secretary to Ze'ev Jabotinsky, a key figure in the Revisionist Zionism movement. Through his various endeavors, Netanyahu left a lasting impact on the study and understanding of Jewish history, and his legacy continued until his passing in 2012.
