Djumshud Ashurov was a notable composer from the Soviet era, hailing from a Mountain Jewish background. His achievements in the field of music earned him significant recognition, including the title of "Honored Artist of the Dagestan ASSR", which he received in 1961. This distinction underscored his contributions to the cultural landscape of the region.

Ashurov's career was marked by several milestones, among them the award of the Jubilee Medal "In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin" on 10 April 1970. This honor was conferred upon him by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, highlighting his stature as a composer.
