George Yevick

American physicist (1922–2011)

George Yevick was a prominent American physicist who made significant contributions to the field of physics during his career. Born in 1922, Yevick's work had a lasting impact on the development of classical fluid statistical mechanics, particularly through his collaboration with Jerome Percus, which led to the establishment of the Percus–Yevick approximation. This foundational concept addressed the many-body problem, a fundamental challenge in physics.

Yevick's academic and professional achievements include his position as Professor Emeritus at Stevens Institute of Technology. In addition to his work in statistical mechanics, he also explored quantum theory, contributing to the research of David Bohm. Furthermore, Yevick's inventive spirit led to the co-invention of the first e-reader in 1972, alongside Adnan Wally. Yevick passed away in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of innovative research and contributions to the field of physics.
