Gillian Merron

British Labour politician (born 1959)

Gillian Merron is a British politician born in 1959. She has been actively involved in the Labour Party and has held various significant positions throughout her career. Merron served as a Member of Parliament for Lincoln from 1997 to 2010, during which time she held several ministerial offices in the governments of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Her experience in these roles laid the groundwork for her future endeavors in politics and public service.

In addition to her parliamentary career, Merron has taken on other prominent roles. Since 2014, she has been the Chief Executive of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. More recently, she has been serving as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Patient Safety, Women's Health, and Mental Health, a position she has held since 2024. Prior to this, from 2021 to 2024, Merron was the shadow spokesperson for Health and Social Care, further demonstrating her commitment to and expertise in these areas. She was also elevated to the peerage as Baroness Merron, recognizing her contributions to public life.
