Immanuel Estermann
German physicist (1900–1973)
Immanuel Estermann was a German physicist born in 1900, whose work significantly contributed to the field of physics. His academic career spanned several institutions, including professorships at the University of Hamburg, Carnegie Mellon University, and Technion. Estermann's research focused on nuclear physics, and he is notable for his collaborative efforts with other prominent physicists of his time.
Estermann's most notable collaboration was with Otto Stern, with whom he pioneered research on molecular beams in the 1920s. This groundbreaking work laid the foundation for future studies in the field. Additionally, Estermann, along with Stern and Otto Robert Frisch, achieved a major milestone by being the first to measure the magnetic moment of the proton. Estermann passed away in 1973, leaving behind a legacy of significant contributions to the field of physics.
