Leah Lowenstein

American academic administrator (1930–1984)

Leah Lowenstein was a prominent American academic administrator and medical professional. Born in 1930, she went on to have a distinguished career in the field of medicine, specializing in nephrology. Lowenstein held various esteemed positions, including associate dean and professor of medicine and biochemistry at the Boston University School of Medicine. Her expertise and leadership skills also led to her serving as a medical advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Health during the Carter administration.

Lowenstein's most notable achievement came in 1982 when she was appointed as the dean of Jefferson Medical College, a milestone that marked her as the first woman to hold the position of dean at a co-educational medical school in the United States. Throughout her career, Lowenstein was a strong advocate for women in medicine, working to promote their participation and advancement in the field.
