Mary Rodgers

American composer, author and screenwriter (1931–2014)

Mary Rodgers was a multifaceted American artist, active in the fields of music, literature, and screenwriting. Born in 1931, she developed a versatile career that spanned several creative disciplines. As a composer, Rodgers created music for notable musicals, including Once Upon a Mattress and The Mad Show, which showcased her talent for crafting engaging and memorable songs.

In addition to her work in music, Rodgers was a successful author and screenwriter. Her 1972 novel Freaky Friday was adapted into a film in 1976, starring Jodie Foster, with Rodgers herself penning the screenplay. The novel's success led to three further adaptations, cementing its place in popular culture. Rodgers also contributed to other projects, such as Marlo Thomas' acclaimed 1972 children's album Free to Be... You and Me, for which she wrote songs. Rodgers passed away in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of creative works that continue to entertain and inspire audiences.
