Moishe Finkel

Yiddish theatre performer (c. 1850 – 1904)

Moishe Finkel was a notable figure in the development of Yiddish theater, active during the late 19th century. Born around 1850, he collaborated with prominent theatrical figures, including Abraham Goldfaden and Sigmund Mogulesko, with whom he formed business partnerships. Finkel's personal life was also intertwined with the theater, as he was married to Annetta Schwartz, a renowned prima donna.

Finkel, along with his partners and wife, played a significant role in shaping the Yiddish theater scene in various cities. In the early 1880s, they dominated the theatrical landscape in Bucharest, and later, they achieved similar success in New York City during the late 1880s and 1890s. Their repertoire primarily consisted of works by Joseph Lateiner and Moses Horowitz, contributing to the growth and popularity of Yiddish theater during this period. Finkel passed away in 1904, leaving behind a legacy in the world of Yiddish theater.
