Raimundo Lida
Argentine philologist and literary critic (1908–1979)
Raimundo Lida was a prominent Argentine scholar, born in 1908, whose work spanned multiple disciplines, including philology, philosophy, and literary criticism. His areas of expertise included Romance philology, aesthetics, and the literature of the Spanish Golden Age, as well as modernist literature. This broad range of interests enabled him to make significant contributions to the field of language and literature.
Lida's academic career was marked by a notable appointment at Harvard University, where he began teaching in 1953 and went on to chair the department of Romance Languages. His family was also distinguished in the academic and medical fields, with his siblings, Emilio Lida and María Rosa Lida de Malkiel, achieving recognition in hematology and philology, respectively. Raimundo Lida passed away in 1979, leaving behind a legacy of scholarly work that continues to be relevant in the fields of language, literature, and philosophy.
