Sheldon Stone
American particle physicist (1946–2021)
Sheldon Stone was a prominent American particle physicist who made lasting contributions to the field of physics. Born in 1946, he went on to become a distinguished professor of physics at Syracuse University, where he conducted groundbreaking research. His work primarily focused on experimental elementary particle physics, with a particular emphasis on the Large Hadron Collider beauty experiment, also known as LHCb.
Stone's research endeavors yielded significant advancements in several areas, including data analysis, LHCb detector design and construction, and phenomenology. He was especially renowned for his studies on B decays, which expanded the understanding of subatomic particles and their interactions. Through his tireless efforts, Stone left an indelible mark on the scientific community, shaping the landscape of particle physics until his passing in 2021.
