Shmuel Trigano
French sociologist (born 1948)
Shmuel Trigano is a French sociologist born in 1948, whose work extends into the realm of philosophy. He has held various academic positions, including professor emeritus of sociology at Paris Nanterre University. His expertise has been recognized internationally, leading to visiting professorships and fellowships at esteemed institutions. In 2009, he served as the Tikvah Fund Visiting Professor in Jewish Law and Thought at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York.
Trigano's academic engagements have also taken him to Jerusalem and Italy. He was a Templeton Fellow at the Herzl Institute from 2012 to 2013 and again from 2015 to 2017, participating in the program "Philosophy of the Tanakh, Midrash and Talmud". Additionally, in 2002, he held the Elia Benamozegh European Chair of Sephardic Studies in Livorno, Italy. Through these roles, Trigano has demonstrated his commitment to interdisciplinary research and teaching, bridging sociology, philosophy, and Jewish studies.
