Abraham Lévy-Bacrat
Spanish rabbi (fl. 1492–1507)
Abraham Lévy-Bacrat was a Spanish rabbi who was active during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. His life was significantly impacted by the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492, which led to his relocation to Tunis. This event marked a turning point in his journey, as he eventually settled in the North African city.
As a rabbinical author, Abraham Lévy-Bacrat made notable contributions to literature. One of his significant works is Sefer ha-Zikkaron, a supercommentary on the commentary of Rashi, which he wrote in 1507. Although the manuscript remained in obscurity for centuries, it was eventually discovered in a Jewish library in Tunis and printed in 1845, bringing his work to light for a wider audience.
