Alfréd Hajós

Hungarian swimmer and architect

Alfréd Hajós was a multifaceted Hungarian figure, renowned for his achievements in both sports and architecture. As a swimmer, he made history by becoming the first modern Olympic swimming champion, a feat that also earned him the distinction of being Hungary's first Olympic champion. His athletic prowess, however, was not limited to swimming; he also excelled in track and field events, including discus and hurdles.

Beyond his accomplishments in swimming and track, Hajós was also deeply involved in football, or soccer. He was a member of the first national European football team fielded by Hungary in 1902. Over the course of his career, he took on various roles within the sport, serving not only as a player but also as a referee, manager, and coach of the national football team. In addition to his sporting endeavors, Hajós maintained a career in architecture, showcasing his diverse range of talents and interests.
