Jenny Weleminsky

Austrian translator and Esperantist (1882–1957)

Jenny Weleminsky was an Austrian translator and Esperantist, born in 1882 in Thalheim, Lower Austria. She spent her formative years in both Thalheim and Vienna, where she developed her linguistic skills. As a German-speaking Esperantist, Weleminsky played a significant role in promoting Austrian literature through her translations. Her work focused on introducing notable Austrian writers to a broader audience, utilizing the Esperanto language to facilitate cultural exchange.

Weleminsky's translations of prominent authors, including Franz Grillparzer, were featured in the esteemed literary magazine Literatura Mondo. This publication served as a platform for the Budapest school of Esperanto literature, a group of influential writers known as the Budapeŝto skolo. Through her contributions to Literatura Mondo, Weleminsky helped showcase Austrian literary talent to a global audience, leaving a lasting impact on the world of Esperanto literature. She passed away in 1957, leaving behind a legacy as a dedicated translator and promoter of Austrian culture.
