Joshua Lorki was a Spanish-Jewish physician, notable for his contributions to the field of literature. He resided in Alcañiz, where he pursued his medical and literary interests. Although his primary profession was as a physician, Lorki's work extended into the realm of literature, as evidenced by his written compositions.
Lorki's most notable literary work was penned in 1408, at the behest of the influential Benveniste ben Solomon ben Labi. The work, written in Arabic, explored the properties and effects of various foodstuffs and medicaments, both simple and composite. This composition was later translated into Hebrew by Joseph Vidal, Benveniste's son, and was given the title Gerem ha-Ma'alot. Through this work, Lorki demonstrated his expertise in the medical field, while also showcasing his literary abilities.
