Olga Blinder
Paraguayan painter, engraver and sculptor
Olga Blinder was a multifaceted Paraguayan artist, skilled in painting, engraving, and sculpture. Born in Asunción to a Jewish family, she experienced significant historical events throughout her life, including the Chaco War, World War II, and the 1947 Paraguayan Civil War, as well as the country's coup d'états in 1954 and 1989. Despite these tumultuous times, Blinder pursued a successful career in the arts, complemented by her work as a licensed professor teaching arts and creative education for over three decades.
Blinder's contributions to Paraguayan art and education are notable. She held directorial positions at the Escolinha de Arte of Paraguay and the Instituto de Arte at the National University of Asunción. Additionally, she served as an advisor to the Ministry of Education for textbook development and authored numerous books and articles on art and education. Her efforts were recognized with awards, including the Integración Latinoamericana award from Argentina's Ministry of Culture and Education, as well as acknowledgments from the League of Women's Rights and the Brazilian government. As a key figure in the 1950s Paraguayan art scene, Blinder played a significant role in promoting change and development in the country's artistic landscape.
